A good lawn mower is necessary for an enjoyable mowing session. Basically lawn mowers are of three types and all these are powered by electricity or petrol. They are cylinder, hover and wheeled rotary. The cylinder lawn mowers are ideal for small lawns and frequent mowing sessions. They work like a scissors and the result is a neatly trimmed lawn. The hover rotary is designed for odd shaped lawns and has rotating blades that float freely, but the finish is not good as the cylinder types. The wheeled rotary one also has rotating blades and is ideal for most lawns. All these types come with other features like height and width adjustments, removable glass clippings box, striped effects, etc.

Both power lawn mowers and petrol lawn mower types have their own pros and cons. While, the electric powered ones are suitable for smaller lawn spaces and easier to maintain, they cannot be used when the mowing area is wet. The petrol powered ones however can be used for bigger spaces and will not get overheated even after long hours of usage. They perform better and are expensive too. It is always wise to choose one with a wider blade so that the mowing gets done quickly. A bigger grass collection box means fewer time outs for emptying. A few allow mulching which means the clippings are further cut and thrown back into the lawn for feeding the grass. Some have folding handles that are convenient for storage.
